Empty data is a signal: Lessons for Vietnamese sports

A sports analysis room becomes quiet when every cell of the report is marked N/A – insufficient information. Many people treat such an empty table as a failure. I treat it as a signal. In Vietnamese high-performance sport, attractive numbers are easier to publish than honest uncertainties. I often remind colleagues that the most suspicious number is the perfect number. If we cannot trace how a statistic was created, we should not use it as proof. Empty analysis is better than fabricated analysis. The real lesson for Vietnamese sports is to invest in the first stage of information collection. Before claiming victory, we must build a transparent data process. If data is missing, say so directly. That is not weakness. It is the foundation of credibility.
